Jane Skelton was born and raised in
Lewiston-Auburn. She attended Williams College and graduated from the
University of Maine with highest honors in 1981. She worked as a
paralegal in a Portland law firm and then as an English teacher at Maine
Central Institute in Pittsfield before enrolling at the University of
Maine School of Law. She earned her J.D. in 1988.
Jane has practiced law in Bangor since 1988,
and she started Skelton Law Offices in 2001. She is the immediate past
Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association (MSBA),
serves on the Public Relations Committee of the National Academy of Elder
Law Attorneys (NAELA), and is an officer of the Special Needs Alliance,
LLC (www.specialneedsalliance.com).
Jane serves on the Board of Directors for Maine’s Legal Services for the
Elderly.
Jane frequently lectures at legal education
seminars and speaks to professional and community groups regarding estate
planning and long term care planning, gift and estate tax, the benefits of
powers of attorney and advance health care directives, asset preservation
and Medicaid planning, and financial exploitation of elders.
